MATCH RULES

Updated 25/08/2016

1. Each match shall consist of 9 games. 3 singles followed by 3 doubles followed by 3 singles.

2. The games can be played in any sequence eg: Doubles then Singles provided that both teams are in agreement prior to the start of the first game.

3. All matches are to be played on a Sunday evening at the agreed venue unless circumstances eg: building work, damaged table, flooding etc do not allow for this to happen. In which case and alternative venue and day is the responsibility of the host team and must be agreed upon by the visiting team.

4. Postponed games must be the result of unforeseen circumstances and not because a team has insufficient players

5. Cancellation of a game will result om the opposing team claiming all the points and the cancelling team receiving a £10.00 fine, unless they have contacted the opposing team by Midday the Saturday before the match.

6. Any team that fails to attend 3 Winter League matches or 2 Summer Cup matches may be expelled from the league pending mitigating circumstances.

7. All teams are allowed 12 players per season, over 12 players the 13th player will have a charge of £5 levied against the team, then £1 per player after that.

8. Teams may consist of both male and female players.

9. The minimum age limit to play is 14 years old and this will be restricted to two 14-18 year olds per team. It is the responsibility of the team captain to clear the playing of minors with the home team landlord or landlady. Do not just expect to turn up and play.

10. Both men and ladies may register and play in any match, provided that they have completed the registration form (first match sheet of the current campaign) and it is then submitted to the Fixtures Secretary. Any new players joining during the season must put their name and signature in the box provided on the results sheet on the evening of play.

11. The only exception to 10 above is at the quarter final stage of cup competitions (including the Summer Cup). No newly signed players may play in the cup fixtures. Breaking this rule will mean instant disqualification from that competition. Players signed on before this deadline must have played at least 2 league matches prior to the quarter finals.

12. Both team Captains are required to sign the result sheet on completiton of the match in the Captains Signature box and the players before the match. Any discrepancies will be dealt with by the Committee in a means that is deemed appropriate, which may range from a warning to frames/match losses or a fine. It is the Captains responsibility to ensure that the result sheet is emailed or posted in a readable format.

 13. Any team refusing to play at a match venue without a justifiable reason, can be automatically disqualified from that competition.

14. Teams are to arrive at the designated venue no later than 8.15pm on the day of play.

15. Teams are to commence play no later than 8.30pm, this then gives sufficient time for all games to be played.

16. Teams that fail to arrive on time shall have one game declared a loss for every 15 minutes they are late,

starting from 8.30pm.

17. If the visiting team have not arrived by 9.00pm they will forfeit all the games and a score of 9-0 shall be awarded to the host team.

18. A player is permitted to arrive late provided that he/she is present when his/her game is being played, failure to be present at this stage shall result in the game not being played and a win being awarded to the other team.

19. Any occurrence of bad conduct, ungentle manly behaviour or deliberated infringements of the rules should first be dealt with by the landlord/lady as they have a legal duty to run a orderly house.

20. If a dispute cannot be settled then it should be referred to the Committee in writing within 7 days. The Committee shall then deal with such offences in a manner which they deem appropriate.

21. Team players are responsible for informing their team captain if they feel that at some time or other they have had any form of altercation with the host pub/club, or its management that may prevent them from being permitted onto the host teams premises. The Team Captain is then responsible for ensuring that the pub/club is contacted and as to whether or not said player/s is allowed onto said premises. Should this/these player/s not be permitted onto the premises then it is the visiting team captain to find an alternate player/s.

22. Should the visiting team arrive at the host venue and a player/s not to be permitted to enter, then the points shall be awarded to the host venue.

23. If the visiting team have carried out the procedure in item 21 and on arrival at the host teams venue the player/s are refused entry after being granted entry, then the points shall be awarded to the visiting team.

24 There is no time frame that can be put on this because when someone is excluded from an establishment it is usually for life.

25. Once the Home team has nominated their players the sheet must be folded in half in such a manner that the Away team cannot see the order of play of the Home Team until after their players have been nominated.

26. The condition of the pool table playing surface, cushions and accessibility to play are the responsibility of the team captain of the host team, who should work in conjunction with the landlord/lady.

27. The home venue is to ensure a set of match balls are available to use for the match.
